I see that several dealers have run out of the D600. If you are thinking about getting one, don't wait.

Wonder if they'll have them for sale at PhotoPlus expo?

Sure - at a huge discount! :D If they do have any, they'll be sold out within the first hour.
Speaking of the D600, I see sellers listing it at a "Discounted" price of $2,099.99, claiming that the list price is $200 higher. The $2,099.99 is Nikon's list price. I'm surprised they can get away with that.

Got my D600 about a week ago from ABT Electronics, ordered through Amazon. They shipped immediately without any problems. Their price: $2,098.00, about a $2.00 discount! But it was in stock and they shipped same day. Their phone is 847-967-8830. They are located in Glenview, IL.
You don't want to wait until the oil on the sensor problem is sorted?

I bet the problem is limited to a tiny percentage of D600 production. My sensor is clear, but I didn't go online to make a statement about that. I just took it for granted that it would be good, and it is. When people have a problem, they complain. I wonder how many of those sensors with "oil" have just a little dust spot or two, but owners are jumping on the bandwagon. In reading about the D600 oil, one report said that the D3 is also known for throwing oil from the shutter, yet I don't think that has come up here as a topic of discussion.
My son's D40 takes beautiful pictures, but with all the talk here of dirty sensors, I checked his. It was in serious need of cleaning, yet his photos look beautiful.
Two words come to mind here: mountain, molehill.

If you have sales tax in NC, did they charge it? I got mine from Crutchfield in CA, and they shipped free with no sales tax.
Did you have to sign for it?

Retail stores are not required to charge sales tax on shipments to a state where the have no physical prescence. Also Shipping should be free if they are an authorized Nikon Dealer.
As far as shortages that could be coming but B&H and Adorama both list as in stock. Hunt's photo,
www.huntsphoto.com has 73 bodies and 37 kits in stock

Speaking of taking things for granted, I've heard that the D600 is very sensitive to the choice of lens ( ie: pro Nikon lens only) to get pro results. You would think (taking for granted) that most any Nikon lens would work well. Have you noticed this problem?

No, I haven't. I've used the 28-300mm, and the results are fine.
BHPhoto has them in stock but you'll have to wait until after sundown tonight to order one. $2096

I have one, and that will hold me for now. I just noticed that some dealers have none, while some are saying they will ship in two weeks. Nikon must be scrambling to keep up with demand - and falling short. I looked at the Crutchfield site, where I got mine. They had now more D600 with lens, but they had the body only. Now they have nothing, and they're selling at list price, not that big $2 - $4 discount. I haven't even seen any cheap grey market D600s being offered.

I think you would have to have pro lenses on any camera to get pro results. I'm speaking of 'pro results' in terms of technical results, not creative results. What they mean with that remark is that the D600, like the D800, will show up any weakness in a lens. But if the lens produced good images on a D700, it will still do so on a D600. You would have to pixel peep to see the faults in the lens. But an inferior lens will not let you see the potential of the camera.

Maybe someone is confusing the D800 with the D600.
Have seen this written about the D800 because it has so many more pixels.

You're probably correct. I'm going to blame it on a "senior moment" lol
