Each month, a stalwart group of the Sea and Sage Audubon chapter in Irvine, CA do bird surveys at several great locations. Yesterday was our monthly survey of the San Joaquin Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary where my partner and I were assigned to gather a list of the species and numbers of birds found in and around just one of the ponds. We sighted over 40 species in about 2-1/4 hours, including these two which I was lucky to catch in flight. All were shot using a Nikon D500 and Nikkor 200-500 mm telezoom. They were processed using Lightroom Classic followed by the most recent update of Topaz Denoise AI. I've been practicing my BIF skills...hopefully the extra practice shows. Hope you enjoy.

Mike, thanks very much. The birding with others helps locate good subjects for the camera. The two hobbies support each other. Itβs lots of fun with some very nice people.
Thank you very much, kpmac. I was lucky to be at the right place at the right timeβ¦decent light, lots of action. Take good care and have a creative and productive week. jak
You got some great shots, and San Joaquin Marsh sounds like a great spot. Congratulations.

Thank you, Clark. Yes, San Joaquin Marsh is a gem. Weβre lucky to have it. Take care and have a great week. jak
Very very nice! I'm tempted to say it's because of the fine combination of camera and lens, but that's about 80% photographer and the rest practice and gear. Did I say very NICE?

Many thanks, Retired CPO. Sometimes you just get lucky. I've been working on my BIF technique so I was kind of looking for opportunities...just lucky to have captured these. Practice, practice, practice! Take care and have a wonderful week. jak
