All you other railroad enthusiasts probably know that a 10° grade is the most a conventional train can handle, even sanding the rails. Here are a couple of cog wheel cars from the Pike's Peak run. Colorado Railroad Museum yet again. DF AF S 24-120 1:4 G ED

I have to ask. Did the horse survive? (See horse shoe on sleeper.)

I doubt any horses were harmed, but thought it an interesting detail.

Considering that the earlier engines were equines, it is a very interesting detail.

Very nice Mr Quixdraw!!
Are the cogwheel items new to the museum?
I think I read the new cogwheel trains had a new style cogwheel. If so, the Pikes Pead RR has an unusable, working steam cogwheel locomotive. Well, it would need a new style cog gear.

I don't know - Museum personnel were few, our time limited. I read somewhere that there are operational Pike's Peak cogwheel machines and trips are upcoming. Can't recall where I saw the info.
