Sometimes it is the odd or unique items we remember from a vacation. These are photos taken during my recent trip to Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens.
At Brookgreen Gardens I saw the biggest grasshoppers I have ever seen. I asked the staff about the “grasshoppers on steroids”. I thought maybe they were a special breed. They said they were just very large grasshoppers. A lady staff member told me about a young boy who had one of these grasshoppers jump on his foot. The boy freaked out and kept trying to shake the grasshopper off his foot.
She showed me the spider that I thought was interesting, though I normally don’t do spiders.
The butterfly building was closed and I thought the large “butterfly” construct was worth a photo.

Nice work and very interesting series. Grasshopper #1 is super.
Reminds me when I was a kid similar grasshoppers would spit "tobacco juice" on your hand when you picked them up.
Very nice and interesting series. Grasshopper #1 is a Lubber. They are a major pest and can eat a whole amaryllis plant in a short time, right down into the bulb. I prefer grasshopper #2. He looks like a friendly fellow!

Thank you for the compliment and for the information on the grasshopper. It sounds like you are familiar with them.
