They soon will either pass a spending bill or be forced to shut down the federal government. There are about 2 million federal employees. If the Gov. is shut down only essential employees will not get laid off. As a result a question. Why are there any non essential employees?I am guessing that about 1/2 of federal employees are non essential. Their main job is justifying their job. Un elected gov. enployees wield a great deal of power over the people. Many of their decisions have the force of laws. In many ways bureaucrats run the day to day operations of the government. We would all be better off without them. Thoughts??

I know that there are too many and they have to much power. A private company does NOT have non essential employees

It is the fourth branch of government and arguably the most powerful, certainly not intended in the constitutional construct of the federal government, it was designed by congress and the Supreme Court, the founders would have given the fourth branch much more consideration in its construct and accountability....
What is worse their paychecks may be delayed but they will get paid for all the time that they do not work.

Federal employees don't get laid off, the get furloughed. Essential employees still have to come to work, even if they don't get paid. Usually, all employees get paid.
What also happens is that government contractors get laid off and don't get paid. Especially all the janitors and other low wage labor.
What also happens is that businesses that rely on federal employees and contractors, such a restaurants and hotels, don't get their business. Some of these businesses suffer enough that they have to lay off employees.
As usual, it's poor people that are hurt most by government shutdowns.
In reply to the OP: Only non-essential govt. employees are furloughed and given a vacation with full back pay which as you have implied comprises the vast number.

Watch the bond markets. If the shutdown as ill effects, you will see it there first.
If the bond trades get spooked, all bets are off. What you think of government employees will make no difference at all.
And if bad ji-ju happens in the bond markets, no one will be happier than the Chinese in spite of the fact that they are major holders of our debt. They have been trying for years to dethrone the USD as the world's reserve currency.
