But not a perfect photo. Taken from my kayak. The sun lit up the fishing line perfectly, if only I had nailed the focus. Maybe I should bring an auto focus lens along next time. I'm still not 100 percent confident that I won't go swimming when I'm in the kayak; so I am reluctant to bring the big (read expensive) guns with me yet. I was also not shooting in burst mode so I'm surprised I was able to get the exact moment the lure hit the water. Sometimes even a blind squirrel get an acorn. lol

Thanks. I really wish I had nailed the focus.

Even without a sharp focus, the shot is good because the cast is shown against an almost ethereal background, Erich.

Having your roots in film has probably given you a good sense of timing and of making every shot count. Decisive moments aren't expendable. Good catch.

I agree, Mike. Everything worked out well for this. The sun was in the perfect place to illuminate the thin line. I like the shot. Lot's of fun.

You might be right; and I do think this counts as a decisive moment. Very true that they don't come around every day. Thanks for the comment.

I understand your frustration Erich, but it’s still a very nice shot and your timing makes it.
I’ve often thought I should invest in a kayak or small dinghy, the backwaters of Poole harbour are so very inviting. Then I remember I’m no great swimmer!

Your use of the kayak is much like a drone. It gives you more options when out looking for that image that you want to post.

I'm not a kayaker, but I did get in one once. I was really afraid of taking my camera with me, so I left it in the truck. Your image proves that timing is everything! I wonder if running it through Topaz Sharpen would help?

Thanks for the encouragement. I bought a kayak that is a "sit on top" type. I also bought a "fishing" model. They are not very fast; but they are stable. I've never tipped this kayak over. I wear a life vest; but have never had to use it. I stick to lakes and rivers that have no heavy currents. I'm liking it; and it does give you a different perspective than walking along the same waterways.

That's a good point. I never thought of it that way; but....sure... it is pretty much the same thing except that I'm on the drone.
