The LP-E8 was superseded by the LP-E8N in 2014 although the LP-E8 was still available for sale. That new battery will work in all the cameras that previously were sold with the LP-E8. It's got a little bit more juice in it. I believe it was first introduced when the power hungry Canon 7D Mark II, which I own, was released in fall of 2014. The Canon version of the LP-E8N and 3rd party versions should still be available.

I prefer the Wasabi Power brand. I can get two with a charger for less than half a OEM battery. I just checked Amazon for your battery:
2 batteries with no charger 13.99
2 batteries with a single station wall plug charger 17.99
2 batteries with a dual station usb charger 19.99

Get one of the ones with a charger, some Canon chargers are not compatible with the Wasabi batteries. Something to do with the internal chip.

I have a Watson or two for my camera (LP-E5 though), so far so good...

My apologies. I was confusing it with the LP-E6. Third party LP-E8 batteries made for Canon Rebels is available from B&H. The Watson, which is sort of B&H's house brand is probably the one to get. Here is a link.

7D mk2 uses E6, E6N batteries and so do 26 other Canon model cameras or battery grips. All 6 bodies and 3 grip models I have owned use it. 5DIV, 6D, 7DII(I have owned 2), 80D and 90D and their battery grips. And a company called Blackmagic that makes cinema cameras designed their cameras to use the Canon E6 series of battery.
Our daughter's T2i uses the E8's and my wife's T6s uses the E17's. Half of the family's batteries are Wasabi Power when you count the extras I have gotten for them, all four of my present bodies have a battery grip and I have almost enough batteries for 3 sets each.

Canon now has an LP-E6NH with even higher capacity* that was introduced with the R5 and R6. And they are backwards compatible with all Canon bodies that use the E6 batteries.

*2130mAh The current Wasabi equivalent is 2600mAh.

Watson, Wasabi, Kastar. Most can be found on Amazon with charger packages. I never had a problem with either one of them in 15 years of using them.

I've never had a problem with aftermarket batteries. If you're looking for a brand, Wasabi seems to be popular. There is a small number of company making batteries, and they put different brand names on them.

Same is true for automotive batteries, but, the final product, whether camera or automotive, is most always built to the seller's specs so sticking with a brand with a good track record is a good idea. Wasabi, Watson, Power2000, are good bets. The real cheap ones are, well, real cheap. Some of my aftermarket batteries have outlasted my Canon batteries. Only ever had one battery problem. A brand new Canon that came with a brand new 6D I had. Wouldn't take a charge from day one. Canon batteries are made by Panasonic, but, you can't buy them from Panasonic.

hi, I have a battery grip for my t5i. have not used it yet because I don't have two batteries to put in it. I read that you should not mix the battery brands in them. so I will get two wasabi batteries to put in it. sounds like you have a lots of nice cameras. thanks for the info. everyone on this site has been nice and helpful.
