This plumeria tree is near my house. I like the arrangement of these flowers in a 16x9 crop that can be used as a computer wallpaper.

Gorgeous colors! Often I don't care for 16:9, but there is a really nice flow to this aspect's composition. Filling your frame with the subject works wonderfully.

Hi Linda, I’m glad you like it. Thank you for your thoughts on the aspect ratio and composition as I’m still finding my way around those areas.

I prefer the widescreen format as I use my images as computer wallpapers, but I’m learning to adjust the framing based on the subject as discussed in another thread.

Filling the frame with the subject is such a good affirmation since I tend to leave the subject too small due to my perception of image quality from my older Canon T2i.

I’ve come to see floral photography as a strong point as I can get close to them in good light. Thanks for your support!

Thanks, Mike! I’ve photographed this tree several times before but this bunch seemed to just work.

I thought they were native to Hawaii but learned from Wikipedia that they were “originally native to Mexico, Central America, Colombia and Venezuela.”
Hawaii.com said, “They were brought [to Hawaii] in 1860 by a German botanist.”

Nice. The flowers have a wonderful softness to them. Not out of focus, but more like a glow. Great color.

Thanks, Erich. I’m glad you pointed out the softness which conveys how the petals feel to the touch. I think it comes from the light at the time, using the 55-250mm lens at 154mm focal length, and not over sharpening during editing. I was working on a sample Canon R6 image and noticed how over-sharpening adds harsh high-contrast edges and adjusted my technique a little.

Light is so very important to mood! You might enjoy the four-part series on quality of light that we conducted in For Your Consideration back in 2018. This is the 4th, with links to the other three in the opening: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-534411-1.html

It was an ambitious undertaking with many folks involved!

I'm also delighted to read that you understand sharpening of soft flowers just ain't right

Colors and form are beautiful. What spoils the image for me is the previous two prunings. The leftover bark is in front of a flower that should start the centerpiece group, which I find distracting. Photographically, I don't think much can be done about it. I myself get so mesmerized by the beauty of flowers that I often don't see the twig or branch that spoils an image until I've downloaded it. Thank goodness, there are many chances to redo.
