Good info... it was never about the added federal unemployment . The polls you provide are interesting but I noted they didn’t poll why workers ( not just moms) are not returning to work. Funny the added unemployment benefit was fine when started last year but was terrible this year.
The number one reason people weren’t/aren’t going back to work is v***s fears.
That coupled with what you just posted - low wages- is the reason there is a worker shortage in manny areas.

Thanks for posting. But doubt you will get much comment.

I’m just a dumb Yooper in Upper Michigan, but all I need to know about the study and problem is found in the first paragraph.
1. Wages not keeping up is because neither are Sales. A Businessman has to make money to pay anyone: Employees and Suppliers. Operating Costs have gone up to where Pricing produces fewer meals sold. Fewer Sales = fewer tips = fewer Employees. Downward spiral.
2. The Middle Class is leaving the state for greener financial pastures. These are Food Service Customers. Fewer Customers=Fewer Sales=Fewer Tips=less restaurant Profit…back into that downward spiral. Those who remain eat out less.
3. “Feeling threatened” and “being harassed”: Criminal types are not being arrested and prosecuted, so they feel less pressure to reform their behavior. The Homeless can pretty much go where they wish. Both groups drive away family diners. Back to that spiral.
This isn’t Rocket Science. The V**ERS of CA have succeeded in k*****g the Goose that laid the Golden Egg (Middle Class). Want to solve your problem? Look no further than the people YOU have elected to run your City and State Governments. Until you do something substantial about changing the status quo stop complaining and wasting Taxpayer dollars on useless studies.

This is not about "criminal types." It's about abusive bosses and customers who think it's their right to get sexual with waitresses.

There are no states where closed due to state mandates at this time . And by far most have no restrictions at all

It's just not that simple. Tips are down for many reasons. Fewer restaurants are still in business. Fewer patrons in many of those restaurants that have re-opened. Increasing prices for food drives restaurant prices higher which in turn drives customers to less expensive restaurants which means lower tips. Poor economy causes many restaurant problems. The restaurant business is the riskiest of all new business start ups, with 90+ % of them closing shortly after (within 2 or 3 years) of opening. We lived in the NY City area for most our lives. The overwhelming number of our favorite restaurants, some of the best in the country, are gone. Lutece. Quatorze, Sitar, Le Pavillion, Bonavia just to name a few. Tthese were all very high end, very expensive restaurants,. Some over $100 per person (I was on an expense account. I entertained some of the most well known MD's in the area. It was part of my job. I was very lucky. (Othetrwise I could never afford those prices)

And the p******c has made people realize that they don't have to tolerate it any more. One life to live. Greener pastures elsewhere.

All over the place and with higher pay and sign on bonuses. Or, using the time to re-gear sk**ls/education for something else. It’s a revolution in how we think about work, physical workplaces and quality of work life.

Hahaha. In Florida the restaurants are open. The bars are open. No mask mandates. No v******tion mandates allowed. So at least half the adults here will NOT go to the theater, to a bar, or to indoor dining.

Of course they are open, they weren't put out of business from a government shutdown mandate.
