Looking for a W10 slideshow app that:
Imports selected pictures - drag drop or import
Allows a rearranging the sort order in the app.
Plays background music of my choosing recording same with the pictures
Can vary the display time of each picture
Has various picture fades for each picture
Allows voice over comments/narration, pausing the subject picture during the spoken comments, that are recorded with that picture in the production. (I would wear a mic and have a "hot key" to pause the picture and speak my comment about the picture. Press/click to continue with pictures and music.
All in 1020p of course.

Who could ask for anything more?

Any app out there known to you guys and gals?

It would be called "video editing". Most of the Non Linear Editors (NLEs) do everything on your list.

My favorite is Adobe Premiere Elements. It does everything on your list. Unlike others, it has some built in tools to work directly with Lightroom Classic RAW files.

Akamerica, remember that all adobe products are powered by old gasoline engines and are overpriced Swiss Army Knives that claim to do everything. Designing a program to do a specific thing has advantages of being specific to the task, usually with a usable uncomplicated interface.

The directions here appear to be generalized. One section is "a‌ ‌video‌ ‌with‌ ‌pictures‌ ‌and‌ ‌narration‌." I never thought about a slide show as if it were a video, but yes, they are that.

Add video clips and footages is one thing smart show... gold... will do... $70
https://smartshow-software.com/order-smartshow.php

I use the one sold by Ashampoo and have been satisfied with it. $15
https://www.ashampoo.com/en/usd/pin/1066/multimedia-software/slideshow-studio-hd-4

"With Ashampoo Slideshow Studio HD 4, turning your images into beautiful slideshows becomes a piece of cake. Music, various transitions, overlays and credits help render your videos special. You can also provide your own commentary via microphone or work with texts, sound effects and logos to make your slideshows more individual – no prior knowledge required." Cupon here give HD4 for $9

It appears that HD-4 will accept video clips since in the end all is converted to video format.

If ProShow Gold worked for you, be sure to check out Photopia, which is loosely designed like it by many of the same people. While it is a subscription product, you can pause the subscription during months you don’t plan to use it.

I have used Gold show producer in the past. I am very interested in the product you are suggesting. Do you have samples of your slideshows you can share either here or on a website?

I am very interested.
Thanks!

Reply from Ashampoo tech support was that no video clips can not be added. But I know that PowerPoint slides can be added. If that is the case, then if the video clip is first embedded into a PowerPoint slide then that slide can be put in the slideshow.

Banjoboy did not tell you the link... nor the price $99-$250/y... a bit steep for my long retired blood. https://photopia.nl/

Warning: Humans being humans, long slide shows are an excellent form of anesthesia. To date, no death statistics have been reported resulting from OD of acute slideshow boredom.

No, not handy ... 15-20 y ago... and the slideshows were of weddings so I would be reluctant to share.

At that time 2005? I had bought Gold... paid big $... then got Ashampoo slide show HD-2 and found it to be superior so Gold was there but not used.

Showing any bias there! Maybe my version of Premiere Elements runs on propane, but it sure works well for slide shows!

FWIW, Adobe offers a 30 day free trial and follows with a 30 day refund period for both Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements. The license is perpetual, not subscription. They both come with Organizer that will do automated slide shows.

I'll echo what Bill Sprague said. You need a video editor. Any good video editing tool can be adapted to do slide shows. On Windows, Adobe Premiere Elements, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve come to mind. But you need a bit of time to learn the ropes.

Watching Ken Burns' shows on PBS is a good way to see what can be done with video editing of still photos, video clips, music, narration, titling, and more.

Thankfully, ProShow died a gooey death. Good riddance to bad slide shows. Sometimes "easy" is just a poor use of media.

I have Pro Show Gold, still use it. Haven’t gone to the new Photopia subscription version but it’s made by the same folks. I really liked the easy learning curve for Pro Show along with their help videos. Photopia incorporates the same features.

I had the same question some time ago and after checking the software others here are mentioning, tried and bought PTE AV Studio. It’s a product, as I recall, from the UK. There are enough tutorials available on YouTube to keep me happy. It is very powerful and the little I have worked with it, a lot of fun. However, I haven’t learned it well yet as I became sidetracked for the past year with a new scanner and have been scanning slides, photos and negatives ever since. That will swell my library for slideshows for sure.
A fellow Hog suggested PTE AV. There is a trial available. Google either PTE AV Studio or Photos to Exe (their old name). It says video clips work as well.

NCHhas a free program called VideoPad that should be able to do what you want. They also have a program called PhotoStage Slideshow Maker that should do a good job but it is not free. They have a free trial so you download and try them to see if it will work for you.

Looks as good as as easy as ProShow Gold & Producer with the ability to add video files and multi-track audio.

It's not free, but I usually find that with few exceptions, you get what you pay for.

I purchased Proshow Gold on its last day but never seemed to get anywhere with it. Can it still work or did it become inoperable when the company closed?
