Going to Taos/Santa Fe and later to Dublin (and other Ireland towns).
Considering either the new 28mm or 40mm lenses being released soon,
for street photography. Which to buy??
I do have a 24-70....
Appreciate any and all input and advice.

24-70 mm, forget the others and spend the money on the trip.

Haven't been to Ireland, but in Santa Fe and Taos several times used a fast 50 at night and some days an 18-35 with good results. The rest of the time I used a 24-120, often at the wide end. I think either of the new lenses and your 24-70 will do a great job for you in town. There are times outside, that you might want more reach even if you aren't planning on wildlife.

Between the 28mm and 40mm, I would get the 40mm for street photography. The godfather of street photography, Henri Cartier-Bresson, used almost exclusively a 50mm lens. I use the Tamron 45mm f/1.8 on my D750 for street photography. Take a look at the book: "Life in 50mm: The photographer's Lens". I have the book, it's very good. You can do a "Look Inside" on Amazon.

I have the 40 on order simply because it is a f2.0 vs the 28 which is a f2.8. Both are the same price and almost the same weight. It boils down to preference, and when Nikon releases them. Best of luck

Going to Taos and Santa Fe, your Z6 and 24-70 f4 is plenty good for most situations. Indoor shots of the chapels might force you to use long exposures and the main attraction in Taos is the pueblo where you cannot get very close. A longer reach is necessary to get detail shots. I would forget the 28 and the 40 and go for the 24-200. I think that combo in Ireland would be just about all you will need.

For me the sweet spot for street photography on full frame is 35mm, so kinda right between those two. If your 24-70 is the 2.8 there’s not much advantage to a 2.0 lens. Even if your 24-70 is the f/4 it’ll probably be fine with the low light capability of the Z6. I would rarely shoot street stuff wide open anyway but I might consider the 40 in that case.

Both totally useless - neither wide enough to be interesting or long enough to be useful

Since you have the 24-70, the reason you are looking at the 28 and 49 must be size and maybe aperture. I would go for the 40.You get size and aperture and wide/reach compromise that should word just fine. And yes can take great images at those focal lengths.

Before buying another lens, it is probably best to first spend some time practicing street photography with the 24-70mm to determine which focal lengths work best for you.
