Good use of your kayak. I see there is not a whole lot of green. But I think that adds to the overall pleasing look you captured.

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Always willing to try new stuff....keeps it fresh.

Kayaks are great for photography... a "lower" perspective, easy movement, quiet, animals are less skittish and, the opportunity for adventure... try a river float- don't even have to paddle...

A river float is next on the list of things to do with the kayak. Should be great fun. It is amazing how close you can get to birds when you are quiet just float near them. Thanks.

[quote=Fotoartist]A good use for the D300. I will remember that tip. I don't know about the lenses though.[/quote

Thanks for taking a look. The 35mm is a "G" lens and works like a 50mm on a crop sensor. The 180 is an older D lens that does have auto focus (on bodies that have a screw drive) so it was a natural choice.

Very nicely captured Erich - well done!

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Should be more to come in the future. Maybe I'll get out in the kayak next weekend.

Good work, Erich. Seems the kayak is well adapted to photography.

I'm pretty excited about it. I think a kayak, or even better a canoe, could be a great platform for nature and wildlife photography.

A number of years ago my wife and I bought kayaks since we thought it might be fun to fish from a kayak. We messed around with them; but the fire never really got lit and they ended up in the back yard on a rack under a tarp. Feeling in a bit of a rut, I decided to see if it would be a decent platform for photography. I did not want to risk any really expensive equipment, so I shot these with a D300 and I just brought two lenses along (35mm and 180mm). Yesterday I scoped out the area that I wanted to paddle in, and realized that it was really not very good in the middle of the day. So today I got up early and was on the water when the sun came up. I'm pleased with today's results; but I think I can do better. I'll take that as a challenge.

#3 for me. I like the triangle between the grass clumps and shore line. #1 has a lot of complementary color elements here. The green against the redish background and the triangle created by the reflection and tree limb surrounding the grass clump. #2 very nice shot. Great use of color balance.
Just my point of view and I may be wrong.

Thank you for your input. I agree on all points. The third shot is my favorite; and makes me want to go out and find more watery compositions.
