I was thinking about getting the Epson ET-8500 photo printer and would like to know if anyone on here owns one? If you do, I would appreciate your opinions as to build quality, photo print quality, features etc.

Thank you in advance for any info you can give.

Read all the reviews you can find. My ET-2760 is fine.

Excellent color print quality IMHO. Paper feed seems much smoother and quieter than my former XP 960. Best of all 6 or 7 times the number of prints versus cartridge printers and the replacement ink is no more expensive.

So, I have just purchased the ET-8550 after printing over 4,500 pics during the summer using the ET-7750.

I just did a comparison with a friend of mine who printed 6 pictures on his Canon Pro-100, and I used my new ET-8550. Believe me when I tell you this, and the differences one could pick out immediately as one of the pictures was a test image and the strawberries were a perfect red on my 8550. and his Pro-100's red were just not as realistic.

He is now trying to sell his Pro-100 to get a new 8550. I actually had 2 Canon Pro-100s and sold them both to get the Epson new 8550, which as we all know, will now print pictures up to 13" x 19", which is why I sold my Canons.

The colours are right on as I am now using both Epson & Red River Photo papers as there are now ICC profiles for both papers companies using the Epson ET-8550, and

THE COST OF INK IS SOOOOOO LOW!!! ONE HAS TO BE COMING FROM A CARTRIDGE-BASED PRINTER TO REALLY FULLY, APPRECIATE HOW LITTLE INK THIS PRINTER USES!!!

I am really not a big fan of the new tray as it opens & closet electronically, as compared to my older ET-7750, which has a manual tray, but will will see if will last as long. Otherwise, a well-built machine, but really not in the same class as the more expensive photo printers from Epson, but again the ink usage is incredible!!!!

You have to try it to believe it!!

Stephen

I purchased an ET-8550 in July this year and it was DOA ... paper feed. The main paper tray feed rollers would not drop low enough to apply correct pressure on the paper. The other trays fed correctly and colors were great. Returned it immediately. I plan to buy again in November. (waiting for 1 or 2 production runs to happen ... I worked for a manufacturer for 13 years and learned that it takes 1 or 2 production runs to get many problems solved on "new" products.) I have had the Cannon Pro-1 for 3 years and it seems to me the Epson colors are as good. The Epson ink costs are a definite mind changer. I also have one of the Epson ET-4760 "office use" printers and I have been supprised at the color I get from it.
