What is the best Black and White Art Printer for Landscapes, portraits, street, and architectural photos, and by best
I mean one that has a full range of inks for monochrome, grays, blacks, etc. for prints up to 11x17, under $1000.00. I have looked at Canon Pro 100, 200, and 300. They don't seem to have very many print tanks for monochrome. Am i wrong? Does Epson offer better choices? Others?

The Canon Pixma Pro 100 has three tanks dedicated to B&W printing.

...my Epsons are the same...R3000 and P800. Printing, in general, is a black hole (haha) and it seems that selection of equipment is very much like camera brands...only choices are limited for high-end product. I chose Epson...others choose Canon. <shrug> I think, if you view a print on the wall, it would be impossible to tell which printer was used.

"I have looked at Canon Pro 100, 200, and 300"

The Canon Pro-100 is no longer being produced. It used dye inks. Pigment inks are generally regarded as better for B&W. That said, I like the B&W results I get from the Pro-100.

The Canon Pro-200 is the replacement for the Pro-100 and uses dye inks. To get pigment inks, the current choice from Canon is the Pro-300.

I own a Pro -100. Excellent Black and White output . Standard calibration yields even greatly tonal range . Chose you paper type to optimize tonal balance

GES, quadtone is a source of info. I dreamed of converting a 4 color to do B&W, never did, but did a lot of reading a few years back.

try the review on the Epson P900. Either Red River or Moab just sent me a review in an email a couple of weeks ago.

The pro 1000 cost a few hundred more, might look at that. I find it fine for BW.

I have a Canon Pro-10. It's a pigment ink printer with photo black, matte black, and gray tanks in addition to the 6 other colors and the chroma optimizer. I get excellent B&W results on semigloss and fine art papers. The chroma optimizer does a great job of eliminating reflectivity variations.

The originator of this thread is asking about printers available now for purchase. The Pro-10 is no longer made. A friend has one and I agree it is very well suited to B&W printing. The current replacement model that you can buy is the Pro-300.

Thanks, I'm leaning toward the Canon Pixma Pro 300.
