Amazon has launched their delivery fleet in my area. In the last month all of my Amazon deliveries have been delivered by Amazon's own trucks. What is amazing is that I tracked 2 separate packages leaving their Sacramento hub at 8pm and being on my front porch by 12 pm next day. BTW I'm in NYC. USPS, UPS and Fedx can't be happy about this. Their NYC hub is in Staten Island.

We have had Amazon vans delivery for about a year. It works very well around here. Interesting to be able to see exactly where the van is online and watch it come down our street. The other day I watched it make 2 deliveries before mine and 5 deliveries after mine. A total of 8 deliveries within a block and a half.

No wonder small, local businesses are falling victim to the Amazon monster.

Amazon is a monster. But, it is so easy to feed.

We get frequent deliveries via Amazon's own trucks, but also get deliveries by third-party logistics companies. I almost never need to track a delivery.

We still have UPS here. I think the population is too small and spread out for Amazon to send its trucks to this area.

I placed orders for 6 items on Amazon one morning recently. Two arrived that afternoon. I don't like to see small business's failing. But a lot of times I've found my self going store to store looking for an item with no success.I come home and find it on line in a couple of clicks and a lot of times cheaper. I going to buy a Nikon D850 in about 2 weeks. It's the same price every where including Amazon but I'm going to go to my last remaining camera store in my area

I would gladly support my local businesses but, there are none around ... I can't even get printer ink at my local big boxes, or anything "photographic" ...

I shopped online with Lowe's yesterday before I went into the store. They didn't have what they said they had, and they had what they said was out of stock. Online with home delivery is much more practical. For my previous order, I could pick up some things in the store, and others were delivered to my house.

Yes amazon is a monster and is putting a lot of small businesses out.

But there's a positive feedback effect. As the small business get less competitive, they can't afford to stock so many things. Amazon, being a glorified warehouse, stocks almost everything. If you want it, the chances of getting it are better if you order from Amazon than if you order from your local supplier. As you get used to getting it from Amazon, you order from Amazon more often. And the small businesses get even less competitive.

The business model is being copied by other large conglomerates like Walmart. Hopefully that will prevent Amazon from becoming the only supplier of everything. But the small businesses are all left behind.

I ordered an obscure plumbing part from Amazon. It was convenient not have to drive around all over, and probably not find something like that. With a few clicks, it arrived at my door the next day

That's not only the best thing to do, but local service is worth something, as well!!!

I used to frequent a local hardware store. Once it changed hands the new crew didn't even acknowledge people when they walked in the door. When the doors closed for good people blamed Walmart and Amazon. Go figure.

I use the local hardware store for just the opposite reason. The guys are friendly, know their stuff and great at giving good advise. The store was taken over by ACE a few years ago but they’ve kept the name and personal touch.
