If you pick the plumes at that stage, put them inside, in a vase and let them dry, they will curl and make a beautiful arrangement, Spray them with hair spray or clear spray paint and they will not shed. Add a few artificial twigs of color and you have a beautiful floral arrangement. You may also spray with colored paint for a pretty pink, yellow, whatever.
The last several weeks, I have been sitting nearby and looking at them - and thinking about an arrangement! Thanks for reading my mind! My neighbor has about thirty feet of them by her shoreline and said take as many as I wanted. Well, the roots were all tangled and thick as pencils. Took me about a half hour to get four out. That was five years ago. Now, they've been growing beautifully for the past three years.
