If you had purchased an EOS 1D model in the past, you wouldn't find the price shocking, nor if you'd purchased one of Nikon's similarly priced 'pro' models.

But this is an R3 not an R1 which I'm assuming is on the drawing board now and will be even more money.

Canon messed up by not giving it 2 fast card slots. What are they thinking?

It is my understanding that 4k with proper buffering is fast enough. It appears that this cameras buffer is almost limitless.

Just received an email that says the new R3 has been released.

24.1 mp

ISO 100-102400, ext 50-204800

Much more.

Price $5999

Wow

If you look at the price, is it worth the price tag. Only 24 mgps. I think if you look at the Sony A9ll it is a cheaper alternative. It is no Alpha 1?

This is a new 24 mp stacked sensor. The current Canon flagship is still the DX1 M3 which has a 20mp sensor.

It really depends on which brand and what you are comfortable with. Canon is marketing this as a sports camera because of the high frame rate and the eye AF.

The R1 although nothing is our yet will probably be one hell of a camera if you need it.

I have had Canon 24 mp camera in the past and that is plenty of pixels for printing most everything.

There are 2 things I hate about Sony compared to Canon. The menu system in Sony is terrible IMO and I much prefer the articulating screen as I don't like to have to do contortions for certain shots

My problem is the price. When compared to the Canon R5 is it worth the extra money? ($2000) Where are the megapixels..Wildlife photographers need the extra crop!

Can someone tell me what "ergonomic élan" has to do with creating an exceptional image?

BTW, don't we already have a Sony troll on this site, meaning we already have one Sony troll too many? Two is well past excessive.

Sony rawks the new world. They’re entitled to an extra troll.

You have to do a feature comparison. How many people need a 50mp camera

The Sony A9II and A1 already had voice recording and the choice of a removable grip, so Canon R3 isn't the first professional sports mirrorless camera. Stop believing all the Canon hype folks. Just the facts . Associated Press and many other top media groups and pro sports shooters around the world have known that and use the Sonys. They won't be switching to the R3.

Having an integrated grip vs a removeable grip doesn't make a camera a professional camera. LOL. I owned the integrated grip Nikon D4 and Canon EOS 1DX and now I prefer the removeable grip of the Sony cameras. It gives me the choice to go lighter weight and still retain all the features I need as an award-winning professional, whom has been shooting news and pro sports for 47 years.

The R3 is really for Canon 1DX users to comfortably move from DSLR to Mirrorless.

Cheers

Just a guess about mp count. Higher than 18 or 20 is only necessary if you want to print LARGE. And most pros are mostly interested in publishing in news or magazine locations so size is not an issue. Or if it is necessary to agressively crop then higher mp may be required. But if a pro can't fill the frame he won't be working very long. Again just a guess.

No problem. Contestants get 3 guesses OR the option to call a friend. Either-or.

Yes and no. Sports and news shooters like the ability to punch in (on cameras like the Sony with clear-image zoom exclusive feature) or to crop the image for greater impact. You really cant do that with an 18-24mp image, but you can do that with a 50mp image like in the flagship Sony A1 and keep great resolution and detail. A real deal breaker for this and other pros.

And boberic I have shot pro sports for 47 years and sometimes even with your longest lens you can't fill the frame if you are not allowed to be closer to the action. Pros don't lose their jobs because of shooting conditions out of their control. Instead they punch in for 1.5X magnification on exclusive Sony clear-image zoom (which doesn't lose image quality, and no Canon or Nikon has this, including the R3), or they crop the image in post. That is where cameras like the 50mp A1 shine.

I stay with UHH to contribute, but I often amazed at how little folks here really know about what pros do, what pros need and prefer, and all the wrong assumptions made by folks here in UHH. lol

Cheers

Be wary of anyone who uses that three-letter nonword even once. Repetitive use loudly speaks for itself. No exceptions.
