I knew we could expect something wonderful from KR:

The R3 is also world's first fully professional mirrorless camera, meaning the first with both an integrated, non-removable full-function monoblock vertical grip and a voice recorder. This is a news and sports camera, and we always need to add voice notes as we shoot as to who's in the image or what's going on so our editors can figure it out and caption accordingly.

Once you get your R3 and start shooting it, its ergonomic élan means you'll never settle for Nikon or, God forbid, Sony, again.

Just received an email that says the new R3 has been released.

24.1 mp

ISO 100-102400, ext 50-204800

Much more.

Price $5999

Wow

Great price ! Thaz gonna give Fuji and Olympus nightmares ;-)

I’ve already pre-ordered a pair, with sequential s/n, one chrome, one black.

I’m wondering if the control ring on the mount converters is really a good idea.

The R5 does all that I need for much less than the R3 - and has better resolution. I am not at all tempted.

Can someone tell me what "ergonomic élan" has to do with creating an exceptional image?

These cameras (EOS R3, EOS 1DX, Nikon D6, Sony A1 and similar 'top' pro models) are intended less for individuals and more for large photography shops with teams of photographers covering large events (Olympics, World Cup) and the camera is connected directly to a computer network and images go from the camera to the servers to dedicated teams of editors to the internet in 1- to 3-minutes from the sporting event through editing to posting in JPEG.

Most individuals wouldn't need these types of cameras for sports, Oscar red carpets, etc. They don't need all those $6000+ worth of features, they don't shoot that much (100,000+ frames per year), they don't shoot in those conditions (8 hours of rain), and they do need more pixels to crop into because they don't also have the longest $10,000+ lenses.

Not being a dedicated 'sports' or 'full-time' photographer. I think the EOS R5 is a much better option for all aspects of general photography, including whenever high-action sports / wildlife are involved.

Who will love your images if you don't love your camera?

If I understand it correctly, it is the beta model for reviewers to use. I seen a review on you tube ( actually a couple, Adaroma. B&H,DP Review ), I forget the actual production model release date but one of the reviews mentioned it.

I love all my cameras, almost equally. But I never bought one wondering if it had "ergonomic élan" which I presume is French for "it smells funny!"

The Canon specs on buffer capacity are the following: Compressed C-RAW file type or just a JPEG or HEIF image will have a burst capacity, while using the 30fps electronic shutter mode, of approximately 500 frames before stalling. That’s over 15 seconds of continuous shooting. The R3, as with the R5, uses a CF express card in slot 1. I didn’t bother to look up the Sony buffer capacity, but I’m sure you can quickly look it up and educate me.

Since the Sony A1 beats the Canon handily in RAW format...it makes sense that it would win in all formats.
As for the memory cards...the edge goes to Sony again...since it has two CF card slots.
The Canon has 1 CF slot and one SD slot. Not the optimum setup for pro shooting. How hard is it to put in two CF slots...especially if the body is quite a bit larger than the Sony A1. Sony managed to do it in a smaller frame.

If you don't think your camera has ergonomic élan, it doesn't have ergonomic élan ...

Ken Rockwell: The R3 sees into your mind. It looks at your eyeball, sees where you're looking, and moves the AF point there. Since our eyes move automatically without conscious thought, this is how the R3 reads our minds and just focuses wherever we're paying attention.

How can Sony or Nikon ever beat a camera that reads your mind?

BTW, don't we already have a Sony troll on this site, meaning we already have one Sony troll too many? Two is well past excessive.

What kind of fool buys a $6000 camera when he can spend that on a good fishing adventure?

I wouldn't spend it on a fish but on a field trial dog, no biggie. I bought one for $4000 back in the '70s. Of course I was working then (now retired) so I had more cash. Harry PS I know one guy that turned down 50K for a dog.

From reviews it is worth every penny and is an amazing camera that sets the overall standard for a pro level action camera with superior AF and high ISO capability and the fastest shutter speed available by double the nearest competitor.
