Last week while visiting my cousin in Kentucky and while hiking a short trail we walked past a small pond where we saw the local resident. I had my phone only and made sure I kept a far enough distance that it couldn't snap it out of my hand.

The tail makes a great handle !!!!
About 25 yrs ago I was trying to get a good shot of a Snapper, but it kept moving out of focus so I gave it a stick to bite then grabbed is tail and drug it backwards then started shooting as it advanced, I'll see if I can find the image and post it later.

The cottonmouth had its safe end pointed toward me with its head behind a rock.

Thanks Frank. This one stayed perfectly still. We walked a little farther past it and when we came back it was still there.
