I photographed only the 2nd tower disaster; the hit and the collapse.

When I heard of the plane hitting the WTC on CNN, I went to the roof at 5th Ave/15th St and shot the smoke and hole in the tower, then the 2nd plane came, I shot and ran to the lab to get my slide film processed. When I got back onto the roof, I shot the same tower collapse.
I had just gotten a 35mm film scanner. A Getty agent saw me at the lab looking at my uncut film strip.
Getty Agency used one shot for 10 years all over the world.

Nikon F4, 300mm f2.8 w/ 2x tele extender, slide film.

I still get goosebumps looking at my shots !

Stunning but terrifying. I hope we never see anything like this again.

It still amazes me that there are people who deny that the towers were actually hit by airplanes. That they towers stood at all after the planes hit and, as your first shot clearly shows, took out a wide area of columns holding up the floors demonstrates the marvel of modern engineering and the ability of materials to adjust to new stresses - kind of like we all had to do after this attack.

We still grieve for the innocents who were terrorized by their situation and killed by this act of fanaticism. We share the burden of grief for all people - their families and friends, coworkers, our soldiers, and those in Iraq and Afghanistan whose were forced into a war that was not theirs.

Thanks for sharing.

My sentiments exactly. However, I have always wondered how a building so badly compromised on one side can come down so fast and so neatly. Also why the third building which was not hit also came down in the same way and at terminal velocity.

Petercbrandt, These are the best sequence photos I have ever seen of the Towers. You are to be complimented for your photographer's composure under fire. Here is a link to impress everyone who viewed the Islamic terrorists' attacks. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?tab=rm&ogbl#inbox?projector=1
