Rugged rock formations with mountains (including Mt. Whitney) as a backdrop, Alabama Hills has long been a favorite of Hollywood and the auto industry. Many of the Westerns featuring Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd), Roy Rogers, John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and more were filmed here. Most recently, car makers like to use the scenery to show their rugged vehicles. I had never heard of Lone Pine, CA. before, and here it is.

Quite true. I've been to Kanab, which is known as "Little Hollywood" to some. But it's further away, which makes it more expensive to truck film equipment to. Lone Pine is only about 200 miles from Los Angeles, which makes it more economical.
