Charlotte Mends Her Web

I took these pictures yesterday. Definitely an orb weaver. As best I can tell, she is an araneus spp. Many orb weavers await their prey in the middle of their web. This particular species remains camouflaged just off the edge of the web. They monitor a "trip wire" that vibrates when something becomes ensnared in the web. She was incredibly well camouflaged in the dwarf spruce in which she had made her web. Last night, we had 75 mph winds race through town. The blowing leaves completely destroyed her web. This morning she was nowhere to be seen.

Most likely a female "Jewel" Orbweaver spider (Araneus gemma).

I think "interesting" is the correct word to describe these photos, Country's Mama. One certainly can't say they are beautiful. There is just something so alien about these creatures. Thanks for looking

Notice that Sarge hasn't chimed in yet with any sort of comment. He probably glanced right over these!

Don't know where Sarge is. He must have "missed" these. I don't think most spiders are beautiful, but there are some like the jumping spiders that I think are cute. I know strange.
