just acquired a rangefinder camera ( Nikon s3 ) I'm looking for an accurate light meter thought the Sikonic 308-L was a good choice . Does anyone out there have any other suggestions on what would be a good meter ? Would appreciate any inputs , thanx in advance!

You can go wrong with Sekonic meters. I use one of these with my Leica IIIf.

Any light meter will work, but I like one that can read incident light, ie. it reads the light that reaches the meter, not reflected light. The light meter I use meters both reflected and incident light. Reflected light meters can be fooled by extremes like snow, sand, and dark areas.

Your present meter should do just fine even if you have to use it in a studio for flash photography. I wish it had facilities for spot metering, the present 40 degrees metering angle for reflective metering in my opinion is too wide for general photography although it is usable.
If you learn, assuming you do not know the meter well, how to use it for incident light metering you will do very well with it.

I may have that same one here at the house, it was my grandfather’s and I have never used it. There are no directions with it although I thought I had a general idea how it worked.

Now that’s a golden oldie! Are you the original owner?

Hi, Stan. No, I was fortunate enough to find this one as part of a "group" purchase. A lot of old stuff. It fits the flash holder on my Leica IIIf and works just fine. No batteries needed.

Oh, the photograph is not the one I have. I found it on the web and used that instead of photographing mine and then having to process, etc. just to reply to the OP.

I like the Goosen Luna Pro. It served me well in the 70s-90s

The Sekonic 308 is a fine meter unless you need spot metering.
