I think that this is the best picture I've seen of one of these clouds. The foreground with the trees gives you a frame of reference. Just FYI, I was driving on HWY 50 into Placerville last week and saw a similar cloud over the Caldor fire 40 miles up the hill. The whole situation with these fires is frightening.

Thanks therwol. It is a very scary situation. I have friends who live in the foothills and they are extremely concerned. The air quality has been so bad too. Sure hope we get some rain this winter.
