I have task manager up 24/7 just so I can keep an eye on it. But the nice thing about computers is that they continue to do your work even when you're not sitting in front of them, and mine work all the time. But good suggestions.

Memory leaks have been the bane of programmers since forever and can be difficult to find and rebooting every now and again can be good (plus flushes out all those disk writes and forces the MFT to be updated), just be sure to let the computer fully shutdown before powering off. I think higher memory usage might not be "bad coding" but just an effort to use what's available and avoid paging.

Cheers.

It’s a truism that as more powerful HW becomes available, programmers will write more elaborate code to use all those new resources, so computers never actually get faster.

After digesting the many comments here and a couple other photo site I visit, I ordered a Dell 8940 XPS from Dell. Before the help I got here, I did not know there were different i7 11th generation CPU chips. I was able to upgrade to the 11700K chip from the 11700 chip, I got the NVIDIA RTX 3060Ti 8GB GC, I changed the RAM to 2 16GB from 4 8GBs, and I got a 1TB M.2 PCLe NVME SSD along with a 2TB SATA spinning drive. With a couple coupons I was able to use I was less than $100 more than the pre-made Dell at MicroCenter. It will not arrive for a little over a month. I can cancel at any time with no penalty if I have second thoughts. I do appreciate all who took time to help me. Hope this also helps others as they read thru this thread.

An update to my new computer. Received the computer from Dell on the exact day they said it would arrive when I ordered it. Oct 13th. Was surprised but not unhappy at all, it shipped thru El Paso, Texas until I opened it and saw it was assembled in Mexico! 2 1/2 weeks in and it has had zero issues. Lightroom, PS, Topaz Sharpen and DeNoise are VERY fast. Download files into LR much quicker. Other programs very snappy now. Almost makes me laugh how quick it is (Mostly Topaz)compared to my 3 YO XPS laptop. So far, so good. Again, thanks for the advise everyone.

You went from a laptop to a fairly powerful desktop. That is like going from a sub-compact to a full size SUV.
Of course it is faster and more powerful in every way.
Enjoy. You might want to consider a second internal hard drive - I have a SSD "C" drive, a 1TB drive for general data, Word etc. and a 6TB for photos and video only. And I do a full backup nightly at 8PM to an 8TB external drive done in one week strings=1 Full backup followed by 6 Incremental backups. I keep the current string plus the last full week's string and have it set to delete the oldest string when I am 3 days into the new string so for 2 days I have 2 full one week strings plus the first two days of the newest string. Why do I keep an older string? In case I find that some update etc. messed something up and I don't notice it for a while.

I use BackBlaze for continuous off site backup. Don't know if that is enough, but it is what I have been doing for the last year and a half. I also have an external 4TB HD I back up most photos to.
