Has anyone tried the free AVG anti virus free download. If you have . . . do you think it helped any? Thanks for any replies.

AVG antivirus is considered to be very good. Similar, but I think maybe a bit better, is Avast, which I used for several years. Before that, it was Bítdefender, which is effective, but bogs down the system. For some months, now, I've been using only Windows Defender, which seems to be all that's needed, very effective, and does not slow things at all. It apparently is much improved over the early versions in terms of effectiveness. I haven't used any of the paid software for many years. If paid, evaluations make Kaspersky sound the best - but I think, not necessary.

Depends on your machine....cant comment on windows but I know from experience that both these will screw your mac up...as will any anti virus programme
I've used AVG for years on our Windows desktops and laptops - works well. Started out with the free version and later bought the paid versions. Have never had any problems.

I neglected to mention that I use 2 recently acquired Mac computers . . . a Mac Mini M1 and a MacBookAir. Again thanks for any replies.
