When I shoot in RAW I go to develop. But in MS Photos I am given a duplicate image, one JPG and the other RAW. How do I set it up so I only get the RAW image?

You seem to be shooting both JPG and RAW formats. If you only want RAW, you can probably change your camera setting.

For existing shots in both formats, I suggest downloading them into a new folder, then sorting by file type. This will put all the JPGs together and all the RAWs together. If you choose, you can then delete the JPG files.

Getting rid of the JPG files may not be necessary, however. If you import the whole folder into Lightroom Classic, for example, only the RAW files get imported for processing.

In MS Photos you're not getting the RAW image. MS Photos doesn't edit (develop) RAW photos. All it does is extract the embedded JPEG from the RAW file. RAW files contain a copy of the JPEG to make it easier to view and manage the files. MS Photos is just opening that JPEG copy for you.

If you want to develop your RAW images you need special software dedicated to that task. To begin with your camera came with RAW processing software and that's a good place to start. You can typically download it from their website.

MS Photo can work with raw formats. Simply go to the MS store and search for Raw Image Extension. I already owned it, so you might, too. Install it and Photos is ready to edit your raw files. IrfanView can also be setup to work with raw files, but you need to know some parameters about your particular raw file, pixel size, etc. --Richard

You're right. With that addition Photos does in fact open the original raw file. However it's editing capabilities or rather lack thereof entirely defeat the purpose.

Hmm... Quoted Reply did not quote anything. Strange.

The thing with MS Photos is that it keeps growing in capabilities. Three and a half years ago when we moved to our apartment in this retirement community, Photos could not do much when it came to video editing. Now, I add and title slide and ending slide, split and trim video files and can add any number together. I can even add audio to a video. And the editing of still images also keeps growing. However, I use IrfanView and MS Paint for essentially all of my photo editing. Gimpp is useful for vignetting and straightening out the perspective when a short focus lens makes things skewed. --Richard
