I have JPEGs that when i try to open give me an error message "looks like we dont support this file format". At one time I was able to open them, but now I cant...

Any clue as to why this is happening and how to fix the issue?

The files show up as the same size as before...

I have attached one of the files...hopefully one of you computer experts can help me fix the problem...

Thanks

Chuck

File is buggered.

Error message from browser: image cannot be displayed because it contains errors.

You didn't pull the card before it was ready or unplug a USB stick before you ejected it did you?

Thanks, but no, they have been readable on the computer previously...

Something hiccuped somewhere and corrupted the file.

I agree, but there are a large number of them...I have to be careful to not override a good file with one of the bad ones...Hopefully there is a fix somewhere, but i kinda doubt it...

Do you have a backup?
If no, lesson learned... Backup your stuff and not only the photos...

I feel your pain. I have a PSD file that got corrupted. Many hours and many layers are gone in an instant. My backup was a week old. I did have to start from scratch, but lesson learned. Active projects will have daily backups.

Try to IMPORT the file rather than OPEN it. Good luck!

Is the only copy you have? It looks like it may have been taken on a phone. Is the original still on the phone (or camera if I'm making an incorrect assumption?) Are you working off of the phone/camera or from a copy?

Did you transfer the files off of the camera to the computer? If the originals are still in the camera on the card, try transferring them again. See if that helps. By the way, I tried opening your file with nearly everything I have on my Windows 10 computer, Photos, Paint, Photoshop, even Vuescan. No go. The file must be corrupted, hopefully not on the card in the camera.

Whatever this file is / was, it is not a known image file. There is no EXIF data in the file that would indicate, regardless of the current extension, it is, at least, some form of an 'image file'. None of the EXIF 'header data' exists is the file. The attributes give no indication how the file was created, such as software or shooting date or camera, etc.

Right click the file then click open with and try another program. or
copy the corrupted files then right click and click restore previous versions.
still no, try to open the file by converting it to another format ... I like png

next try and renaming the file and see if that works. I have that work quite often
sometimes paint will open a file that wont open in other software, try that and if it does, re save it, if it opens.
then try and save the photo in your reg software. Then If it doesnt open, you have something corrupted...
copy the files then start looking for corrupt data.

Believe it or not, I tried all of that except converting to another format. Any software I have that can do that must be able to open the original file. I am hoping that the OP is not working off of the SD card in their camera and that there is an original there.
