I read yesterday that traffic deaths went up substantially in 2020, and the trend is continuing this year. They suspect it's because fewer people were driving, so those on the road drove faster and with less care. They also drove with more alcohol and drugs. Be careful out there.

Not so sure. A few weeks ago the traffic was bumper-to-bumper from Portland Maine down into Virginia, I think people are just way more inconsiderate than ever before.

Traffic here is very heavy, too, but people seem to be driving faster and more wild.

Try driving in Thailand and you'll see one of the highest traffic death rates in the world. And if that doesn't scare you, I just renewed my driver's license, and I'm legal to drive until age 90! How scary is that?!?
Cheers,
Don

Our county went from 149 a month ago to 561 now.

Bumper to bumper from Maine to Virginia. You don't tend to exaggerate a little, do you?

The idea of the article was that people began driving wildly when there was less traffic because of Covid. Now that traffic is heavy again, the bad driving is continuing.

I think it's more due to distracted driving. Most new cars now have fancy center console for radio, audio, etc. I think people get distracted using them.

Definitely agree with you. People are just all around unhappy these days and road courtesy seems to be a thing of the past.

Yep I had a loan car while mine was having some work done. I was glad to give it back I just got anoyed with all of those added safety features waning me that there was a car on my left and on my right and warning me I was too close to the car in front! I've been driving for sixty years and not been the cause of any accident but all this uncalled for technology for the people who never learned to drive properly in the first place.

BTW have no place in my life for self driving cars.

Also from texting on their smartphones. A friend of mine’s daughter totaled two cars in a month going through an intersection and reading texts from her boyfriend.

Maybe, but I live on Eastern Shore VA. We don't have many traffic lights here, and mostly in small towns along US 13, but lately traffic has more and more often been backed up almost the entire distance from one light to the next. You can quite literally walk the distance faster than you can drive it.

I've been watching these youtube car crashes.
Yup, most of them are on the phone.
Then she got out of the car raging, with the phone still to her ear, telling the other driver to learn how to drive.
