Question to the hog grammarians:

OK, RAW, in photography, is not an acronym. Got that. But are there any rules that say you can't have a word that's made up of all caps, like RAW, but is not an acronym? 🤔

Well, not in a DOS file system. In Unix, the difference between RAW and raw is dramatic.

Raw is.
If one converts from RAW to JPEG without any changes, it's still "uncooked".

Not exactly. It *would* be cooked but very bland and not at all seasoned.

Some users PP efforts are really quite “gourmet”. Others are more like just pouring ketchup on everything :-(

Sorry, but the raw photo taken by your camera is not an analog workflow. Your camera is storing a digital image made up of zeros and ones. Analog signals are continuous curves, frequently sine waves.

Very glad that someone really cares. Thank you for that.

A sensor processes an analog input into rasterized digital output. That is the Rasterized Analog Workflow (RAW).

Hopefully, there will be endless stoopid but entertaining argument over this.

I prefer it spiced up a bit so I prefer to pour Worcestershire sauce over everything.

I have to ask if you are the one responsible for applying this definition to the RAW photo "acronym"?
We can keep an eye out for a web page somewhere on the internet picking it up, to be cut and pasted and blasted on every photo website on the planet so it will soon be common knowledge. Hoggers paying attention will know exactly to whom to give credit. Hopefully you can handle all the fame coming your way😉👍🤷‍♀️👀👌✔💕

I've been here for 5 years. I started messing with cameras in the sixties. (I've survived the sixties twice now.) I've enjoyed both of these raw/RAW threads. I've learned and laughed. Mostly laughed. But as I've said before, learning photography here is like learning to play golf by driving a ball retriever buggy at a driving range. You do a lot of ducking, but you catch a good one once in a while.

The hard part for a newbie just starting out and trying to "learn the ropes" is to learn the lingo. Sifting through all the acceptable variations, opinions, examples, and well meaning but misinformed helpers can be really confusing. Then there are the snarks, trolls, and gods of photography. Sometimes we just need to think of those trying so desperately to learn.

Oh ya, I could go for two fists of Old Grandad, but unfortunately, even one finger will set off the aches n pains anymore. So enjoy it while you can!

Wow, I never use steak sauce on a steak.
If I want to taste steak sauce, I'll put it on crackers.

Tried it on steak once. Only tasted the sauce.
Expensive way to eat the sauce.

I don't use it on steak either. Hamburger sometimes. But it's really good on french fries.
