I really don't take many night shots but here's one.

Thank you Matt. I could say the same about yours.

Nice bridge shot Matt. Knowing you like b/w, I mentioned to Erich that I have noticed a lot of night time photos seem to convert into nice black and white photos.

After dark shots are always going to be about atmosphere. This is a shot of mine that I put up for editing a while back. This was my favourite edit, done by HT (Heirloom Tomato - no longer with us).

I never saw this shot. Could you provide a link to your original post? To my eye, this edit includes a great deal of shadow recovery and the overall appearance seems quite bright. I get it though. The foreground gives a good sense of place, without which it wouldn't work nearly as well. Its always a balancing act to try to get it to be faithful to what our eyes were aware of. I have quit a few images during this brief time when the lights are still on, before sunrise. File info looks questionable to me. It says the camera is a Coolpix 7700 which may well be, but the exposure says 30 seconds, which I don't buy.

EXIF says 1/30 second.

The camera was a P7700. This was in the days before 1" sensor compacts. The P7700 was one of the better premium compacts of its day. This is the original thread:-
