Watering an outdoor potted cactus this morning, I came across this long-dead fly.

Anyone seen anything like it?

That plant is the thorny fly catcher. It has amazing speed and accuracy so it can catch flies on the fly.

My fingwes can attest to that, as can my dogs' noses!

Yes, I have seen “anything like it”, not identical but like it. Based on what I’ve seen, a very small predator has cached its catch there for later consumption.

The other “anything like it”, not involving any predators, is that the image is like a photo hobbyist buying a brand new high end SLR in late 2021 ;-)

How else is a fly to commit suicide except to fly into a spider's web.
