I agree with everyone else, I think that it is a great shot. Much better than anything that i've come up with so far.

Looks like the Canon SX40 is doing its part of the job.
I love that birdie boy - caught it in a good pose - makes me wanna be a birder. Nice shot.
Have you tried tools like darkening and sharpening in post processing? Picasa, free, offers all of those tools, and more.
I almost always use those two as well as the "I'm feeling lucky" on virtually all my shots.
Good detail in the feathers and in the eye. Just think it needed a bit more exposure to make it a better image, imho.
