So many choices... so little time. I am looking for suggestions about this item. Who makes the best? Thank you.
I use the plates from Really Right Stuff. Excellent quality and they have a fitting for a QD connecter that makes removing and attaching a strap very convenient.

Really Right Stuff and Kirk are the premium brands. For years I only bought RRS. I bought one from Kirk when RRS was out of stock. Last year I bought a couple of imports and found the fit and finish 'appears to be' equal to the higher priced ones.

Same here, Really Right Stuff
All the usual recommendations. My wifes D850 has a SunwayFoto PNL-D850 at a 1/4 the price.

I can quickly remove and affix the camera/lens unit to a gimbal, ball head or mono. After the hundreds of uses they, all four of them, look and function like new.

I have one on my D810. It alright for the money. No complaints but, one thing I noticed, the center mark on the back is off a little which may only matter some on panos I guess. I just move it over a little were I feel it should be when mounting it on the tripod.

If you want the best it's really right stuff! Things like a QD socket build in and the fact not only does it attach with the tripod socket but there's another screw through the eyelet. Not the cheapest but you said best!

He asked for suggestions. The "L" in L-plate implies 90 degrees, which is why the comment about ball-head, which you may well have on a tripod, or may not.
I found my L-plate got in the way of things and the combo strap a useful alternative.
Let's hear what the "OP"? says.
