In central California, just a few miles south of Hearst Castle, lies the town of Cambria. A typical seaside town, except for one place..."Captain Nit-Wit's Castle."
His real name was Arthur Beale, and he hated Wm. R. Hearst with a purple passion! So, Arthur built his own Castle, using anything he could find along the highways, roads, town dumps, etc. Anything anyone threw away as garbage was Howard's treasure. It took his lifetime to build, and, the result is what you are seeing.
For best results, click enlarge. Along with Hearst Castle, Captain Nit-Wit's castle is a California Landmark. There is a caretaker on the property and can (im not sure now) be toured.
this is the entrance to the castle.

This is one of Arthur's workshops. They are spotted around each level of the castle.

This is in case two people were in conversation and they had to do whatever. They could continue their conversation. And yes, these commodes do work.

While Arthur was building the castle, this is where he lived. It is located at the top of the property.

Once the castle was completed, or at least in "livable" condition, this was his kitchen.

This was Arthur's entire wardrobe. He owned no other clothes.

Interesting and picturesque 🎯🎯🎯
I'll take that over the Hearst Castle any day. I laid my camera down on the top of a cannon to change a lens at the Hearst Castle one time. The guide almost had to go to the hospital. Apparently it was a 14th century French cannon that I almost destroyed.

Thanks Cwilson, from what I found out, he was an eccentric, but he never made trouble for anyone. He just built his castle.
