Needs to be somewhere other than your house and preferably out of the immediate vicinity. Even “fire proof” gun safes get too hot in a major fire to preserve the storage - consider cloud storage for your DR copy. I have MDisks in my gun safe as well, but keep a DR copy in the Amazon S3 cloud.
Never, ever had a portable Sandisk SSD failure in heavy professional use all around the world for years now. . They just work and are tough as nails. Any brand can have a failure ,but I never had one with a Sandisk SSD. .
My worst failure rate is with anything WD, won't ever buy them again. At one time they were the gold standard, but they are just garbage and a nightmare now IMHO.
Cheers
Any suggestions for adding a SSD internal. My dest top harddrive is 90% full and I have to do something. Is the SamsungSSD good for my replacement?
They are tough as they are the primary drives used in more recent laptops. The life expectancy is driven by drive quality just like HD's. They should last longer than HD's as they have no moving parts. Unlike HD's they do not require running disk cleaners and consolidation routines, in fact they could be ruined. I moved to SSD a few years back and last year sold my 9 bay QNAP remote server for one that only uses SSD drives.
Any more details like exactly where, when, Country, Camp, City?
My guess is somewhere other than the camps....

How big is your HDD that you want to replace?
1TB SSD's "reasonable" for me. Just bought a Crucial 1TB for around $100, Samsung's run around $120-$130.
I've used Macrium Reflect (free version works fine though I have the paid version) for cloning the HDD to the SDD.
