There are some new changes to general delivery to make it easier to use. My order from Adorama Was supposed to be mailed by the USPS, in fact Adorama offered free shipping and their shipping dept. determines how it will be shipped. If you request that it be shipped by a specific carrier as I did, USPS, the shipment will be shipped by your requested carrier, according to the salesman. After all of the people that I encountered here saying that you can't ship to general delivery I decided not to take the chance and paid the $5 shipping fee for requesting a specific method of delivery. When I got my email conformation from Adorama they did choose the method of shipping and that was UPS. There is something new, I think, called Mail Innovations that UPS gives it to that will deliver it to the post office. So I paid $5 too much. But now that I have a new remote shutter release from a different manufacturer, not Nikon, I now have some Nikon parts that I don't need, a wr-T10 and a wr-r10 both are for sale if anyone is interested please contact me through private message.

This has been going on with Amazon, UPS & USPS for a couple years. Profitable for all, whatever is most efficient. Out of curiosity why would someone prefer General Delivery vs actual address?

My experience with "UPS Mail Innovations" is that it adds to the delivery time over what USPS alone would have been. I've watched the tracking info show my package sitting in North Carolina for 1 or 2 days before it moves on. I give UPS Mail Innovations two thumbs DOWN.

It will probably take even longer if someone takes all these specific details and calls and has the tracking ID rerouted to their address. Then, you'll have to go onto ebay and try to buy the remote control again via bidding.

I admit I know nothing of Bemidji, MN but I put this zip code into a site finder on the FedEx web site. They had six addresses in Bemidji, MN which could have been used as your ship-to address. Two were on Paul Bunyan Dr NW. UPS had six also, including a UPS Store and a CVS.

Sorry it is a long answer. This post is here for the large number of people who in another thread did not believe that it is possible to ship to general delivery. And as CHG_CANON has written some of those unbelievers are very angry.

Mail Innovations works well, a partnership between shippers so to speak. We probably get about 20-25% of our deliveries that way.

As I recall, it is when the shipment is delivered to a specific post office and is held there for pickup by the addressee.

My experience with UPS Mail Innovations has been less than satisfactory. I've only had two packages sent via UPS MI, and both were in a sort of limbo for several days with both companies saying they did not have the item. Also, in both cases, while the items were reportedly handed over to USPS, USPS claimed the receipt of the items were pending. That was the status for several days until suddenly the items appeared in my mailbox or on my porch. Shortly after arrival of the items, I received an email stating they were "out for delivery.

A very confusing and non-communicative delivery system, not to mention it is not really efficient for customer satisfaction.

It's not the fastest method. It is some sort of money saving (for the sellers/carriers) shipping option...I don't know if you can opt out of it (you might try that via the change capabilities on UPS site). It delays my packages by one business day, unless my UPS guy (he knows me) brings it anyway due to having other deliveries in my neighborhoood. Most of the items have not been "dire need" so no real inconvenience on my end...I can see where it could be an inconvenient "surprise" in other situations..
