This set of photos of the Palouse was taken from Steptoe Butte (3612 feet), the highest point in the Palouse area. We were leaving the area and had planned on taking photos earlier but high winds and cloudy weather delayed our departure. When we got to the top parking area, the wind was so high that I could not go above the lot. The first five shots were taken in a left to right arc covering about 200 degrees of the view. The next five were taken from the road as it would around the butte to get scenes covering the entire view.

These shots are a combination of tripod shots (with me holding it down and attempting a gentle shutter release) and hand held shots bracing against the wind. I used my 100 - 400mm lens and my 24 - 70 wide angle. I hope that this mix gives you an idea what it is like to survey this beautiful area from a height.

A better overview and description of the area is available in this link to the Washington State description of the Palouse. (http://www.sevenwondersofwashingtonstate.com/the-palouse.html)

Awesome, Mike. Did you give permission for someone to edit your image and screw it up? Just asking.

Spectacular photos Mike! I've been through the Palouse several times but never stopped at the Butte. I'll have to fix that.
