Being an old "Leicaphile" going back to 1950 when my Dad gave me a Leica IIIf which I still have with the shutter curtains replaced by Leica in 1978, I became interested in the Leica Q2. Since 2013, I have been using Fuji X-series cameras; now have two Fuji X-T2 bodies and a Fuji X-T30. Thought it would be interesting to compare the results from the Leica vs Fuji cameras. Rented a Leica Q2 from www.lensrentals.com over last weekend and ran the cameras side by side. The Fujis have incredible colors enhanced by their film simulation modes. The Leica has a 47 megapixel sensor and world renowned Summilux 28mm f1.7 lens capable of extreme cropping. Attached are comparative results. The top image is from the Fuji with XF18-55mm "kit" zoom while the lower image is from the Leica at 28mm. Without meaning to denigrate the Leica, which is a superb camera, sensor and lens, the Fuji is my choice at least for landscape color. Both images are processed in Lightroom 6.1. Hard to beat the sharpness of the Leica lens but Fuji lenses are no slouches when it comes to sharpness. Incidentally, lensrentals is a great organization; they offered to sell me the Leica under their "keeper" program. I am keeping the Fujis and loving them.

Fuji image looks like too much saturation and clarity have been applied. I wouldn’t expect to notice a difference in sharpness between images from these cameras unless the images were printed at least 30 inches on the long side.

It’s always nice to read good things about the X-T2. It’s my workhorse body.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but its really hard to make any comparison in this manner. Color can be manipulated, or set in camera. To be fair, both should be on "standard" and there should be the same composition, in the same light with the same settings. While a broad landscape can be an example, its not a true test of the lenses. It really needs at least a portion where sharpness/detail is tested as well. Just IMHO, as a prior Fuji XT-1 user.

It would be easier to compare the two if they were both taken from the same spot. You use the 18-55mm on the Fuji but don’t say what focal length. It would also be easier to compare if both were taken at the same focal length. The first photo
Is over processed while the second photo seems more natural.

The Fuji was set at 28mm for comparative purposes. The images should have been from the same spot and yes, they are probably over processed.

Both very nice and very sharp. However, they are also both very over saturated, especially the Fuji. Was that a result of your processing choices in Lightroom? I would love to see what both images look like after demosaicing in Lightroom with either no edits or as Jpegs SOOC. We can't be sure how much of what we are seeing is the camera and how much is due to your Lightroom edits.

You can't compare unless they both have exactly the same processing. Bit like saying that apples greener than that orange.

There doesn't look like there is a difference in the photos worth the extra $3,500 the Q2 would cost compared to the cost of the Fuji. Also, good luck getting a photo of a hawk in a tree with the Q2. Wise choice to stick with the Fuji...

I've always felt that the real difference between the Leica and any other regular camera is the build quality, the hand assembly and testing, and of course the very well designed lenses. Today, with computer designed lenses, the difference in picture quality is much closer than in the film days. I never really understood the "Leica look" but I suspect it was the difference in quality of the lens during the film era when any light tight box was good enough. The film was the same but the lens were better. Today, we have to factor in the sensor and the software that interprets the data off the sensor. I have seen quite different results from various Leica digital cameras even though their lenses are still very good.

Nice comparison. I have the X-T30, and I like it.

I agree too much PP saturation on the Fuji image.

Interesting but it probably would have been more helpful if both cameras were positioned the same. IMO.
