My son shot this recently at a bench using a scoped rifle my dad bought home in 1945. My son loads what he shoots. The first shot was high and to the left. After the scope adjustment the next 4 were nearly dead center and could be covered with a Nickle

Goes to show, old rifles are fun.
Wow, that group at 100 yards is great shooting and a great gun.

The 8X57 Mauser has always been a great performer
Good shooting!!!!
My first 8mm was purchased for $35 in 1962 the bore was gone it looked like a rusty stove pipe.
I rebarreled it with a Douglas Premier barrel in 30-06 for some reason it never did group worth a nickel, we tried all of the remedies but none worked, however it did do the same thing every time, first shot dead center each shot after that went 1" high and 1" left the next was 2x2 and so on. It really bummed me out but having the money for another barrel I lived with it, besides the first shot is what counts!!!. Every thing I shot were one shot kills.
I did build several more Sporter's on the 98 actions and all grouped very well. The last 98 I bought cost me $50
Barreled it in 25-06 with a Feigen Regency Varminter stock made out of the most beautiful fiddleback maple I have ever seen.I sold it 3 months after I finished it to buy a Civil War breech loading percussion carbine Maker Edward Lindner only 1200 made. The Lindner paid for my first 35mm camera.

But where's the photos of the rifle? :)
Great shooting with a great classic rifle!
That first shot wasn’t that far off. Shows what the combination of rifle and shooter can do.
