New Math vs. Old Math

We seem to have a lot of Old Timers around these parts so I would expect PEMDAS to prevail... Very simple equation that everyone seems to disagree on.... I know the REAL answer but I am not a spoiler. Can we get it in 1 page ?

8/2(2+2)= ?

Actually, it kind of goes back to "Assumptions " that we were just talking about re: pixel size and sensor formats. Assumed logic does not always prevail.... BTW, this is a FB hack but thought it was a worthy topic to think about.

There are no assumptions, follow PEMDAS, Excel does.

One also has to understand the difference between it being written as a fraction or "in-line".

That was one of my points.... Modern calculators don't necessarily follow PEMDAS... One has to KNOW the rules under which you are operating. Using PEMDAS, 1 is the correct answer... the other answer is 16.
