San Francisco Plantation is located in Garyville, La. It was constructed by Edmond Bozonier Marmillion from 1849 to 1850.
Edmond died in 1856. His son, Valsin, wife Louise and their son Charles lived there. Valsin died in 1871.Louise was from Germany,
she and Charles continued to live there until 1875. She sold San Francisco to Achille Bougere in 1875 and moved back to Germany along with her son Charles.
Achille then sold it to the Ory family in 1905. They had the plantation until 1973 when they sold it and other parcels of land to Energy Corporation of Louisiana for the construction of an oil refinery. The refinery and other parcels of land, which included San Francisco, was sold to Marathon Oil in 1976. Marathon donated $385,000.00 yearly to help with the upkeep of San Francisco. Marathon recently decided that the
plantation is not part of their core business and said that they would spend that $385.00.00 in other areas of the community.
The plantation is owned by the San Francisco Plantation Foundation and is operated by The River Road Historical Society.
They host weddings, craft fairs, etc. to make money for the upkeep of the plantation. As of this writing it is unsure if that will be enough to sustain the maintenance of the plantation.
As always, best viewed in DL.

Wow. Hope they can continue to keep it going.
Beautiful building well maintained. Your shots are wonderful. Apparently however, not everyone on the plantation lived in luxury
Very interesting and nice images.
Very nice set. Hope they can continue to fund the maintenance and upkeep of the plantation.
