I made an interesting discovery last month. I had just purchased a new iPhone and a case that would hold a credit card and a few other minor things. I liked it for that reason and the part of the case protecting the front could be folded back and used as a stand for watching videos or whatever. It was held closed by a couple of small magnets. Perfect! Except the magnets affected the compass, level, and my star locater apps! They just stopped working! Changed out the case for a different one without magnets and everything is working just fine. Something to think about!
Yea, magnets will do that to compass sensors.
Just as old fashioned (hand held) compasses should not be near ferrous metals or electronics when you use them.

Just hope that the designer never has anything to do with the design of a plane or anything that transports people.
Where do these people get trained ?

Hmmm. No brand mentioned for the case. I suspect it might have been a tofu-dreg case.

Hence Magnetic North and True North.
True north is a fixed point on the globe. ... Magnetic north is the direction that a compass needle points to as it aligns with the Earth's magnetic field. What is interesting is that the magnetic North Pole shifts and changes over time in response to changes in the Earth's magnetic core.

True, that's why one can change the amount of deviation in the compass program to compensate for one's location on the globe.
Not all phones have a magnetic compass sensor in them.
Mine does, I have yet to check my wife's phone.
Some phones without the compass sensor simply calculate the direction based on movement information in the GPS program.
If you don't move, it can't tell you what direction you are going, only remembering your last movement.
Even the North Star Polaris will not be true north in 6000 years. Even now it's not quite true north. The earths axis not only tilts, but has a wobble causing the change.
I also believe it is the main reason for whatever climate change is happening.

Could VERY well be!
I found a temp chart that has cyclic hot & cold periods of varying degrees over MANY many years!
So tell me it's not cyclic.
I can never get an accurate compass reading on my iPhone compass when in my car. Why is that? I didn't think there was anything magnetic in a car except possibly the magnets in the alternator.
