Darn, that'd be fun and attractive unless you were a local landowner. The are forces working on establishing their Great American Serengeti here as well. Be a PITA to have to carry a heavy rifle on my own property. Elk just cruise through normal barbwire fences but they almost never attack humans.

BTW, nice photos regardless of the rest of the story!

The Prairie is composed of about 45000 acres, with no fences. It is managed by theThe Nature Conservancy.

An agency of Note...but they don't live and run Farms or Ranches where they hold sway.

Impressiv herd! You shot at really near/short distance...were You not afraid one bison becomes nervous and a get aggressiv? In winter 2019, I visited a "polar park" in France...it is a kind of farm, where reindeer, wolves and a few bisons are raised; the different species have large, well separated enclosures. The coworkers in this park told us to stay very far away fom the bisons because they are wild animals who have a shady character and unpredictable reactions. Anyway, really nice photos...they look really heavy and massiv!

#1 is a nice shot. There is an elk and bison range one hour from where I live but they are fenced in.

Our Custer State Park buffalo are currently beginning the rut. They’re singularly focused on breeding and can be quite dangerous. This is also the beginning of the Sturgis Rally that brings between 400k and 700k motorcycle riders to the Black Hills. Every year someone gets hurt riding their motorcycle thru the park around rutting buffalo. Never fails!

I did not get out of my vehicle. The bison were walking across the road and traffic would have to stop and let them by.
