Got this email from an old golfing buddy…..this happened to his daughter…..
Richard:
Enjoyed your email concerning very poor construction. This picture is from our daughter in Austin. When Lowe's hooked up her water line to the refrigerator ice maker would you believe they drilled right through the dishwasher instead of just going behind or under it. She is now looking for a new dishwasher from Lowe's
Typical Lowe's SNAFU. Wouldn't let them change a light bulb, based on similar experiences.

...I'm pretty sure Lowe's/Depot contract their installations and such. Inexperienced installer for sure (and, of course, this attempt will help him gain experience...at least the experience of walking down the road.). So, it's not "Lowes" per se, they just sold the machine...I buy from them all the time, but do my own work!

No, they sold the machine plus installation.
My sister-in-law recently bought a new kitchen range from Lowes. I was present when the old one was removed and the new one installed. The two men delivering and installing it sounded and acted like they knew what they were doing. For the next couple of weeks my SIS used the range and oven without any problems or indication of problems. Her nephew and niece came for a visit of a couple days and they went out of the house for a few hours. On their return they commented they smelled natural gas. A call to the gas company resulted in finding the gas line to the range was not properly installed and tightened, resulting in a gas leak. I hate to think of what may have occurred if the nephew and niece had not visited and the leak had gone unnoticed for a longer period. Thankfully the gas company corrected the problem and my SIS is now safer in her home.

Had a similar problem with Home Depot a few years ago, only with flooring. Very bad installation. Paid for flooring and installation but Home Depot did not do the installation. It was a sub-contractor that is no long used by HD. Their fault though, they pick the installer.

...yes, I guess so, *they* approved the installer.
My 12-year-old grandson could have done much better.

I enjoy teaching my grandsons basic home maintenance/improvement skills so they will not need to count on others to do the basic plumbing and carpentry tasks around the house later in life.
Currently I am tutoring my daughter’s two sons on bathroom renovation at her house.
She bought all the materials required (Water heater, Lavatory and fixture , toilet, shower fixtures, flex water lines, emergency shut-off valves, drain pipes, mounting hardware, etc.) to complete the job.
I am instructing them how to remove the old items and install each of the new items. They are doing all the work, using my tools…..I simply act as a teacher/supervisor (sometimes to their dismay and consternation). But, they are learning new skills no longer being taught in the High Schools that have dropped all shop classes! (Sad).

And what a shame, I learned more life skills such as electrical wiring, plumbing, welding and many of the things needed in day to day get by for home repairs in my agricultural shop class than all of my other classes combined.
What’s happened to our schools and their common since training?
I bet it was a contractor that Lowe's sent out. They sent us an excellent guy to install new countertops. Some "Pros" don't know what they're doing.
Regardless of price, I will not ever repeat purchasing an appliance from Lowes. If my wife had not insisted on a particular brand and model, I would have walked away. Can't speak to the installation as we hired our own pro to install it.
Spoke to Home Depot when I got frustrated. Salesperson promised next day response with models and prices. Never heard from Home Depot again.

Good for you. I lament the fact that I did not do nearly as good a job sharing those skills as my late father and grandfather shared with me. I consider myself fairly handy but I in no way have the skill set you possess. Your grandsons may not fully appreciate what you are teaching them now but one day they will.
It seems the quality and pride of doing a job correctly the first time has gone out the window. More people are just looking at how much they get in their paycheck or stimulus.
