Dumfries and John Paul Jones.

Went over the border to Scotland for a break with some of my family and stopped in a lodge near the town of Dumfries. this is a shot of a 13th century tower in the centre of the park, it was bequeathed by Robert the Bruce to one of his followers. As it was very hot while we were there, we ventured along the 'Solway' coast every day and visited some very interesting sites.

This is Sweetheart Abbey, unfortunately you couldnt go inside, because as you can see work is being carried out to preserve the stonework.

That was pretty neat, Doddy!
Thanks for great history and good photography!
Very good set. Thanks for posting the originals.
Even though I often read The Daily Scotsman, it's odd to read about crossing a border within the UK.

Thanks for posting these, Doddy--interesting.
Visiting the tomb of John Paul Jones at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis offers the experience of sensing history.
