Beautiful set. Although I have a 90mm macro lens I often use the same camera/lens combination for bugs, especially ones that sting

Thank you Curmudgeon.

I like the 'social distancing' approach for photographing bugs from a distance. 😊Even the ones that do not sting - butterflies and dragons - tend to get spooked if you get too close.

Great images. I write with fountain pens and there are several shades of blue and blue-black on the wasp's wings that would wonderful shades for inks.

Thanks rodeoman for your comments.

I used to write with fountain pens when growing up in India. Nothing fancy. But used to dream about using a (pricey) Pelican pen.

These days its ball point pens all the time and the cursive quality is in constant decline.
😊

Nice! The first one is known as the Great Black Wasp (an odd common name), and I really like how you got the metallic blue to show on the wings. These big solitary wasps hunt katydids to feed to their young.

Thanks Mark for the feedback. I guess the Black wasp's wings have iridescence and the colors show if the sun shines on it 'just right'.

I am thinking of the same property as in the wings of a common grackle (bird).

Super detail, I like the Black Wasps image. They still give me the Willys!

Thank you Moondoggie!
I thought the yellow jackets were more aggressive (?).
