Oxygen is an interesting element. When it first appeared on earth as a byproduct of microorganisms, it killed most of the life on the planet. While we need oxygen to live, there can be too much of a good thing. I just read an article from NewScientist (England) which said that researchers have discovered that decreasing oxygen levels can speed up the healing of heart and spinal cord injuries. Years ago, they learned that chilling the body to what are considered dangerous levels can be beneficial in certain situations. As a side note, doctors have seen decreased oxygen levels in Covid patients, and they provide extra oxygen. Maybe the decreased oxygen level is another way for the body to fight - like producing a fever.

Oxygen is a very dangerous element. It's not the majority element (+/- 21%) in our atmosphere for good reason. It's very caustic, and folks getting pure oxygen aren't on it for very long. Oxygen is classified as a non-metal, but at higher pressures it can assume metallic properties.

I had a silent heart attack, fluid on my lung, and pneumonia last week on top of cancer in one lung, which really helped me as I am back home and feeling fine.

Not only is the oxygen level low in the blood stream but the carbon dioxide level can start to climb in the blood stream leading to an acid/base imbalance in the body. As the imbalance worsens chemical reactions at the cellular level malfunction and if interventions are not successful death results

Anti oxidants infer that cell oxidation is bad. So we need oxygen to live but oxidation is bad 🤔🤔

Don't forget all the horror stories associated with dihydrogen monoxide - all the people killed by overexposure and the untold billions in property damage it causes each year. Just look at the news from a few days ago from Europe.

Another interesting thing I read is that many, maybe most, minerals on earth are do to the oxygen. No oxygen geology would be a lot less interesting.

The real question for exo-planets has been somewhat the opposite. First, concept was if you find oxygen you got life. Now believe is water + sunlight can produce oxygen, so no water no oxygen. If you examine the solar system, plenty of water as ice, not much oxygen. Believed rocks on Venus reacted with water, rocks oxidized, hydrogen lost to space.

Oxygen Toxicity is well known to deep divers. Divers use gas mixtures that have reduced oxygen content when making deep dives. This is to keep the blood oxygen levels in the proper range. I did deep dives years ago

And what exactly is dihydrogen monoxide? It is a very important part of out bodies, making up approximately 90% of each living body on the planet.
It is water.
