A twitter poster photolari posted two pics of the rear of a Nikon Z9 and a couple of pics of a Canon R3 from the Tokyo Olympics.

The Nikon Z9 pics have since been removed from twitter but are still up at a couple of sites including NikonRumors.

Photolari mentions both cameras in their twitter feed, but I don't understand Spanish so I can't tell you what was said. There is mention of the 24 mp resolution of the R3.

Try one of the online translating sites. Easy, copy & paste, get English.

I guess I could have done that, but feeling lazy today.

Too bad the shots of the Z9 were only of the rear of the camera. There are lots of buttons and dials including two AF-ON buttons. It looks like the second one is for holding the camera in the vertical position, possibly for BBF.

As an aside from our PM discussion...I read the results of my lower back x-ray from yesterday and it looks like bone spurs on my spine. I'll have to wait until the 12th when I talk to my primary to see if surgery is recommended. But, at least I know what's causing my lower back pain.

Best of luck! They do some great work these days, some not very invasive, so quick recovery!

Thanks...I hope so. I'd like to get back out shooting.

Glad to hear that the Z9 was spotted at the Olympics but a pic of the back of the camera really isn't very meaningful. Will look forward to hearing how well it performed (in particular speed of focus acquisition, keeping focus, etc), how much it weighs, when it will be available to be ordered, how much it will cost, etc.

Best wishes on the 12th when you talk to your primary to see if surgery is recommended.

Hopefully the opinions of those who are using it will be made public soon. It will be nice to know if the predicted 45mp is correct or if it will be 50mp or 60mp. Supposedly all three resolutions were tested. Would also like to know if the 30 frames per second was an accurate prediction. That speed would be pretty darn good for such high resolution.

As for your questions on availability and cost, it is rumored that an announcement of availability will be forthcoming in November or December. The cost will supposedly be the same as all of Nikon's pro cameras...about $6500.

Thanks...I didn't mean to hijack my own thread. It's just that the subject came up in a PM with QD a couple of days ago, so I thought I would give him an update.

I've only had one surgical procedure in my life (gal bladder) and not really looking forward to another, but I'd really consider it to get rid of the lower back pain. I start every day with 800mg of ibuprofen and 1000mg of acetaminophen and I still get the pain from standing or walking. Needless to say, I'm not shooting a lot these days.

Why not helpful. Which end of the camera do *you* use ? I don’t have much use for the front. The back is my office.

It's meaningful because it verified that the Z9 was used. It's also meaningful because we see the back which wasn't shown before only the front was shown on the Nikon website.

The real issue is not what camera's are being used at the Olympics, but how UHH photographers can improve their skills with their current equipment. I have said it over and over and over again, it's not the equipment, it's the person that holds it that makes the difference. If you don't have the skills, learn them.
The guys who are shooting at the Olympics, they have proven skills, that is why they are there and we are not.

@flip - please be careful with the ibuprofen. A friend of mine developed a stomach bleed (from ibuprofen) that almost took his life. Good luck with the dr.

This is funny, but typical. Whenever I see a camera on TV, I try to figure out what brand it is. Even with the name taped over, I can usually tell. I can imagine a group of photo enthusiasts at the Olympics. They'll gather every night to discuss what they saw - not the sports, but the cameras.
