Unfiltered Waterfalls

I normally shoot waterfalls using a circular polarizing filter, that I install before arriving at the photo scene.

I took these 3 days ago. I removed the camera from a holster type bag, and, to my horror, the filter came off the camera and fell to the ground, landing on sand.

I wanted to properly clean the filter and check the threads so that is why these photos are “unfiltered”. The filter seems to have cleaned up OK.

I also wanted to test my recently purchased Nikon 18-140 for the first waterfall photos.

Nikon D7500(photos 1-3).
Panasonic LX10 for photo #4, for more natural looking water.

Freeman’s Mill Park in Georgia.

Nice shots!

(Plenty of water there to wash the sand off the filter! Shirt to dry it on.)

Thank you! Yes that probably would have worked…and maybe have given me a do it yourself diffusion filter.🙂

Only if you didn't get all the sand off before drying.

From the looks of things a polarizer wouldn’t have much effect with that light except maybe to slow your shutter speed a couple of stops. An ND filter would be much more effective for that.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. This is the closest waterfall to our home. I like to go in the early morning before the sun hits the waterfall. I have shot this before with a ND filter stacked with a circular polarizing filter. My main objective is to remove the reflection in the water. Here is an older photo with just a polarizing filter. Some people like to use ND filters for waterfalls. In the shade I prefer using a circular polarizing filter only.

Very nice. We don't need no stinking filters. (Just kidding).

I keep a few lens cloths (from eyeglass purchases) and if I need to clean a lens or filter, I roll up the cloth and use the pinked edge to lightly remove dust or use it small circular motions going through the center of the lens to clean the lens. Periodically, I clean the cloths with warm water and a couple drops of Dawn (no substitutes) in a ziploc bag. Rinse with water and air dry.
